The City of Vista, commonly known as “Vista” is a medium-size city near the San Diego-Carlsbad metropolitan area.

When California became a state in 1850 settlors arrived in the Vista area.
Founded in 1882 with the erection of a post office by settlor John Frazier who named it “Vista” because “Buena Vista” already taken.
In 1886, the first successful winery in America started in Vista.
Vista’s growth slowed by a lack of enough water. That ended in 1923 when the Vista Irrigation District obtained funding to build a new water source from Lake Henshaw.
Agriculture endeavors flourished with the planting of citrus fruits, celery, and tomatoes. When avocados got planted, Vista became the “avocado capital of America” by 1948.
Vista grew with a new Business Park in the 1980s. By the 1990s, Costco, Target, and Wal-Mart opened large stores.

The U.S. Census Bureau in 2010 established the city’s total area as 18.7 square miles and a population of 93,834.
In 2018, estimates raised the population to 101,224.
